The more we speak out, the more politicians will realize that ignoring us will impact their election results.

Here is the text of the email I sent to those politicians. Feel free to use it, and to pass it on to anyone else who might be interested:

Dear Senator or Representative:

Please carefully consider this matter before taking any rash action. The 9th Appellate Court did not declare the Pledge unconstitutional. What they declared unconstitutional was a state law which REQUIRED government teachers to conduct the Pledge. As long as the Pledge is not presented as a government sponsored activity, there is no constitutional issue.

Furthermore, the 9th Appellate Court did not declare *allegiance* unconstitutional. The original Pledge, before the current religious language was added, does not raise state/church separation issues and would never have received this ruling.

American Buddhists and atheists who do not believe in any gods, as well as Hindus who believe in multiple gods, are just as capable of patriotism and allegiance as any other American. The language added to the Pledge in 1954 was an overreaction to the Communist threat of that era, and violates the constitutional rights of any American who's required to take the Pledge but does not happen to believe in one particular god. This is an exciting opportunity to restore those rights and renew the welcome of non-monotheistic Americans.

Please, do your part to explain the important factual details of this issue to the public, and help improve our nation by showing that we are capable of learning from our mistakes, and making amends.

Thank you for your time!

Thanks for your letter, and thanks for wanting to help!
