Robert "Rock" Howard

Topic: Libertarianism: Philosophy, Religion or What?

About the speaker
Despite a heavy handed upbringing as a Roman Catholic, Mr. Howard has been a secular skeptic since the age of 11 when he discovered astronomy. He earned a degree in Physics and Astronomy from the California Institute of Technology where he studied under professors including Richard Feynman, Kip Thorne, Gene Shoemaker, and many other leading scientists. He also learned to play music while at CalTech and still performs on occasion with local bands or as a solo act.

Mr. Howard became a Libertarian in 1984. He married and moved to Austin in 1989. Mr. Howard has pursued a career in software engineering and co-founded Tower Technology in 1992 and served as CEO and CTO for 9 years. He currently works at Advanced Micro Devices.

Mr. Howard is the former chair of the Travis County Libertarian Party and was the Libertarian candidate for Texas State Senate in the most recent election and srves as the Legislative Advisor for the Libertarian Party of Texas. He has been a long time member of the ACA and previously lectured the group about cosmology.
