You are correct this book 'The Fable of Christ' by Luigi Cascioli is like many other things I have looked for and found that it's just not there. Luigi Cascioli, who was an ex catholic priest, the author of 'The Fable of Christ.' is not making a guess about what happened he is using all available documents and reason.
There is an interesting story concerning the author of The Fable of Christ Luigi Cascioli. He began legal proceedings against Father Righi after the priest denounced Signor Cascioli in the parish newsletter for questioning Christ's historical existence. Luigi Cascioli is a historical researcher who presents his discovery about all the concepts and the historical falsities that proves Christianity is a fabrication. He does show that the Jesus of the Bible was made up out of cheesecloth for a purpose. He has extensive knowledge of the Holy Scriptures challenged the powerful Catholic Church. 'The Fable of Christ' contains all the necessary elements, permitting the author to bring an action against the Catholic Church for abuse of popular credulity and personating (art. 661 and 494 of the Italian penal code). Atheists and like-minded others support the cause of Cascioli. Atheists around the world have asked that all the Atheist Associations publicize the book. In a lawsuit against the Vatican, the Church was accused of inventing the story of Jesus' existence. Although the case was thrown out of court in February 2006, the plaintiff, Luigi Cascioli, appealed, but ultimately his case was closed. Case closed yet you would think that if he were perpetrating a hoax they would desperately want to expose him in court.
I found a web site that referred me to The British Library to obtain this book. Maybe our library could get this book from The British Library. If not go to England and buy it yourself. Although, you must be careful on your way home as people out there are jealous of all that freedom we have.
I have noticed that Americans usually know about the books written by the British atheists because they are well publicized, but not so much the French or the Italian.
Abelard Reuchlin's 'The True Authorship of the New Testament' is very similar work. In this work Reuchlin illustrates how he discovered that a Jewish historian Flavius Josephus is in fact Arius Calpurnius Piso, pen name Flavius Josephus, a Roman.)
This leaflet was written around (1979) to show how and why the Roman Piso Family wrote the New Testament. The Jews, who were tired of being ruled over by the Roman Aristocracy, were lead in their third great revolt against Rome in 60 C.E., by Benjamin the Egyptian of the Pharisaic Party. Though the Romans defeated them, they knew that they had to do something to stop the rebellion. For that reason, certain people were getting together a plan to regain control of the Jewish masses. Seneca the Rhetorician, Lucius Piso, Gaius Piso, and their relatives figured to give the Jews a new rhetorical religion. Lucius Piso, with assistance from Seneca, wrote 'Ur Markus' about the year 60 C.E. With this first book, they hoped to start a new Messianic Jewish religion.
I think that when Abelard Reuchlin wrote about this in (1979) he was only the second person that had written on that subject. Today there is an attempt to discredit his work most critiques are by those whose expertise in the field of language or ancient history is nada. Some of them claim that the Piso family never existed in spite of the fact that there is an immense amount of historical evidence that the Piso family existed. Julius Caesar's wife was a Piso. The Pisos are mentioned as consuls to the Empire numerous times in history and they were major players in the conspiracy against Nero.
Also - Galba became Emperor (Galba was a direct descendant of Augustus Caesar and father of Otho). Galba named Licinianus Frugi Piso as his successor instead of his son Otho. His son Otho, who was overthrown by another family member Vitellius, overthrew Galba in that same year. Vitellius was the father-in-law of Julius Gnaeus Agricola. Agricola was the father-in-law of Justus Piso, Claudia Phoebe, Domitia Paulina 1, T. Flavius Clemens, and Cornelius Tacitus. It was Arrius Piso himself who succeeded in defeating Vitellius, thereby securing Rome for Vespasian. Vespasian, in turn helped Arrius to destroy the Temple in Jerusalem in the year 70 C.E. (These are
well-established historical facts.)
The late ABC News anchor Peter Jennings was in Israel broadcasting a television special on Jesus Christ. His program, "The Search for Jesus," explored the question of whether the Jesus of the New Testament was historically accurate. Jennings featured opinions on the Gospel accounts from DePaul professor John Dominic Crossan, three of Crossan's colleagues from the Jesus Seminar, and two other Bible scholars. On national TV Dr. Crossan not only cast doubt on more than 80 percent of Jesus' sayings but also denied the claims of a divine Jesus, his miracles, and his resurrection. Jennings's report did focus on one issue that ought to be given some serious thought. Crossan implied that the original accounts of Jesus were (embellished by oral tradition) and were not written down until after the apostles were dead. Thus they are largely unreliable and fail to give us an accurate picture of the real Jesus. How are we to know if this is really true?
It is a shame that many scholars are so intimidated that they can not collaborate in unbiased research that is oriented toward, scholarly research on the many theories about the authenticity of the Bible. No other subject would be treated as fact without one shred of proof. Many things in the Bible have been proven to have no historic, archaeological, or scientific proof to back it up. (Too numerous to include.)
The Life Of Jean Meslier - Pamphlet by Voltaire
Superstition in all ages: By Jean Meslier, a Roman Catholic priest, who left as his last will and testament the following pages, entitled Common sense by Paul Henri Thiry Holbach Publisher: Miss Anna Knoop (1878)
Jean Meslier was a priest who came from a background of poverty. He was highly moral. He became ill and died. After his death they found in his house three manuscripts, each containing three hundred and sixty-six pages, all written by his hand, signed and entitled by him, "My Testament." This work, which the author addressed to his parishioners and to M. Leroux, advocate and procurator for the parliament of Meziers, is a simple refutation of all the religious dogmas, without excepting one. The grand vicar of Rheims retained one of the three copies; another was sent to Monsieur Chauvelin, guardian of the State's seal; the third remained at the clerk's office of the justiciary of St. Minehould. The Count de Caylus had one of those three copies in his possession for some time, and soon afterward more than one hundred were at Paris, sold at ten Louis-d'or apiece. A dying priest accusing himself of having professed and taught the Christian religion made a deeper impression upon the mind than the "Thoughts of Pascal."
"What profit has not that fable of Christ brought us!" - Pope Leo X 1513 -1521
As an ex-christian I have no doubt that all religions are hoaxes and used for control of the masses. I was very interested in the Piso family theory and there may be much truth to it, however, when I read Abelard Reuchlin's work on the subject there was one sentence that sent red flags a-flying for me. He made the arrogant statement that indicated without doubt the lies of christianity only proves that Jews are the chosen of god! Well, there we go again with those who slam all other religions and still cling to a book that is just as much a forgery as all other 'holy books'. I would be interested in knowing who, before Abelard Reuchlin wrote about the Piso family and whether they were Jewish also. If the Piso family existed, I would not discard the possibility of them being Jewish and not Roman or Greek. If you study the biographies of the popes, many of them have jewish ancestors.
I am also a truth seeker, but I have learned to be very cautious and I read as carefully as possible. Sometimes one paragraph or even one sentence can turn and reveal another agenda.
Thanks for posting the items on Jean Meslier and Luigi Cascioli. I am not familiar with either but they seem worthy of investigation.
I found many apologists ministries making various remarks about Abelard Reuchlin. Some claim the Piso family didn't exist. Some claim it was a Jewish anti xian thing. One apologist went on a rant about Abelard Reuchlin and the Piso story he found in a humanist pamphlet. I found one paper by an apologist claiming that Abelard Reuchlin was a Jew - but that name is a pseudonym - and he doesn't supply the real name. How does he know that Abelard Reuchlin is a Jew (if he doesn't know who he is)? He also implies the Jews' negligence with which they perpetrate hoaxes would not happen if they were Aryan.
Here are Books and Writings on the subject - which some apologists say don't exist:
The Romans: from village to empire: by Mary Taliaferro Boatwright, Daniel J. Gargola - History - 516 pages (see the senatorial decree concerning the elder Gnaeus Piso in Chapter Ten).
The Beginning by John Duran - (Excerpt) - Doesn't it seem at least slightly suspicious that the New Testament should be written at a time when Rome was at war with the Jews? And that the public "history" that we have from the time is from the winning side. The Roman side! This is the chronological account of not only how history was re-written, but also why the New Testament was written, and by whom, and how, and for what purpose. This tells the "real" history of biblical times between 19 C.E. and 192 C.E. First, know that there is a hidden war going on, it is now in progress, and it is the result of the conspiracy that was initiated back in the first century C. E. A partial list of the original conspirators include: Lucius A. Seneca, Galba, Pliny the Younger, Lucius Calpurnius Piso* Caesoninus), Arrius Calpurnius Piso (A.K.A. "Flavius Josephus"), Vespasian, Titus (Vespasian's son), Justus Calpurnius Piso (A.K. A. "Justin Martyr"). * The same name as the Lucius Piso whose daughter married Julius Caesar - Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus. That earlier Lucius Piso was in fact, also a Caesar! He was Julius Caesar's father's brother (That's right, his uncle!). And Lucia Calpurnia Piso was his first cousin. Marc Antony was Julius Caesar's 2nd uncle.
James Ballantyne Hannay who wrote in the 1920's describes in his The Decline and Fall of the Roman Religion how the Romans not only set-up Christianity, but invented Judaism itself after the conquest of Egypt which opened to them the ancient secrets of manipulation of the masses through religion. Some of his best evidence is the obvious artificiality of the "Hebrew" alphabet and language that Hannay claims was invented by a team of Roman Scholars. It should be noted that these scholars, if they existed, could have been working with the accumulated knowledge of Egypt's Library in Alexandria. That the Library later burned under suspicious circumstances, destroying the accumulated wisdom of the ages, may have been no co-incidence.
Hannay also wrote a massive tome entitled Sex Symbolism in Religion. He makes startling revelations about Rome's allegedly planned transition from a religion of human/animal sacrifice and organized prostitution (Revenue from Temple Prostitutes) to Christianity which only symbolically embodies these Pagan traditions. Is this the Stoicplot to manipulate the "passions of the incurably ignorant masses" broached by Reuchlin and Duran?
Bruno Bauer. Christ and the Caesars' (as 'Christus und die Caeseren', 1877, Berlin). It is available in many of the larger colleges and universities around the world in the original German. There is an English translation.
Abelard Reuchlin. It was Reuchlin who first identified the actual names of the Roman authors of the New Testament and made his findings public for the first time in 1979 in a work entitled "The True Authorship of the New Testament". He has written a series of books since on the subject.
First, a computation. In the standard edition by H. Peter, Historicorum Romanorum Reliquiae (2d ed., Lipsiae 1914) the extant forty-five fragments of the Annales of Piso cover twenty pages (118-37; in fact much less: a substantial space, more than one-third, is taken by the testimonia and apparatus printed at the bottom of each page).
1. Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesonînus, at Rome, consul in 58 BC; his daughter Calpurnia married Julius Caesar. He refused to support Cicero against Clodius, and was rewarded by the latter with the governorship of the province of Macedonia. His administration there (57-55) was attacked by Cicero in two speeches, De provinciis consularibus and In Pisonem (see Cicero). After Caesar's assassination in 44 BC he tried to prevent civil war, but died within a short time. He was an Epicurean and a friend and disciple of the Greek Epicurean philosopher Philodemus, whom he very probably made a resident of his own magnificent villa at Herculaneum. The villa excavated there which contained charred rolls of Philodemus' writings may be Piso's.
2. Gaius Calpurnius Piso (d. AD 65), the figurehead of the great conspiracy against the emperor Nero. Exiled during the reign of Caligula (AD 37-41), consul under his successor Claudius, Piso was a rich and popular figure at Rome, and a great orator. The conspiracy to assassinate Nero and to put Piso on the throne was betrayed and he was executed.
The fabled Villa of the Papyri, Herculaneum's buried in Mount Vesuvius's lava and mud 2,000 years ago. The largest Roman villa ever found, it was the magnificent seafront retreat for Lucius Calpurnius Piso, Julius Caesar's father-in-law. Piso, a literate man who patronized poets and philosophers, built there one of the finest libraries of its time. A century after Piso's death, in 79 A.D, the villa was entombed under 100 feet of volcanic mud by the same eruption of Vesuvius that buried Herculaneum and the nearby cities of Pompeii and Stabiae.Accidentally discovered in 1738 by tunnelers exploring a well shaft, the villa revealed 1,800 rolls of papyrus, reduced to lumps of coal by the 750-degree Fahrenheit cloud that wrapped the city during the eruption. Paradoxically preserved forever, the scrolls make this the only intact library known to have survived the ancient world. In the 1970s, when the late professor Marcello Gigante of the University of Naples begun the first systematic study of the unrolled scrolls, it emerged that most papyri contained works in Greek by the Epicurean writer Philodemus. Gigante believed thatonly about half of Piso's library had been retrieved and excavation resumed in the 1990s in the attempt to find the "Holy Grail of classical literature." the 30,000-square-foot villa wasn't built only on one level, but stretched down toward the sea on four terraces. Many believe that the mud filled lower terraces could hide the fabled second library, which probably contains lost plays by Sophocles, Euripides and Aeschylus, lost dialogues of Aristotle, and Livy's History of Rome, of which more than 100 of the original 142 books are missing.
There is a book review of "THE SYNTHESIS OF CHRISTIANITY": (How and Why Ancient Rulers Needed to Create a Universal Religion) which was given by Dr. Dorothy B. Thompson (Published in the August-Sept. 2000 issue of The Freethought Perspective.
By the year 70, Arrius Piso and Titus army had destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem. FROM CHAPTER I (The True Authorship of the New Testament) "We Jews and Church Leaders have known since the beginning of Christianity that it was synthesized by the Roman Piso family for the purpose of maintaining control over the masses and to placate slaves. And, this is why we Jews are the 'Chosen People' and why we have endured so much for so many years; we are witnesses to the lie. Our ancestors wrote what they could about this in our texts."
'Chosen People' because they knew about the lie. So what! Now we all know. And there is a lot more evidence than this - not the least of which is the Dead Sea Scrolls don't support the "New Religion".
Jesus is still a lie.
Nevertheless, Abelard Reuchlin is not disgusting and uninformed. I have read The Dead Sea Scrolls; but first, the name Abelard Reuchlin is a pseudonym, and it wouldn't surprise me if you don't know any more about The Dead Sea Scrolls than you do about Abelard Reuchlin.
After the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered a few were published, but the remainder was held out for 35 years. After a long campaign for their release the rest of them were published. Several scholars have said that the reason for the long suppression of The Dead Sea Scrolls was the fear that it would be hazardous for Christianity.
These scrolls indicated that the beliefs and practices of the Qumran community (the religion supposedly founded by Jesus) had in fact existed long before the time of Jesus' virgin birth. What the scrolls indicate is that the original church of Jerusalem was an extremist Jewish movement violently opposed to the influence and dominance of Rome.
The Dead Sea Scrolls were being written in 150 BCE and continued until 70 CE, a period of 220 years. During those years 872 scrolls were written in Hebrew and Aramaic by the peoples of Qumran. The supposed life of Jesus was between 2 BCE and 36 CE (38 years) and the Great Temple of the Jews in Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. These dates are important for understanding the importance of what the Dead Sea Scrolls reveals.
After scholars completed the translation work on the Dead Sea Scrolls a very important fact was obvious. Nowhere in the Dead Sea Scrolls was the name of Jesus mentioned, and Christianity had no support in the translations. The Dead Sea Scrolls challenged the two most fundamental beliefs of Christianity: the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and Christianity as the embodiment of the message of Christ.
The scrolls make no specific mention of Jesus or that the 'Jesus message' originated with him. The Dead Sea Scrolls only mentions "teachers of righteousness" that were part of an ultra conservative messianic Jewish movement based in Qumran going back at least 100 years BCE. The Dead Scrolls also "broke the news" that many of the practices that people now regard as Christian innovations are not. The Lord's Prayer and the Lord's Supper can be traced to the Qumrans, also going back at least one century before Jesus' virgin birth.
The Dead Sea Scrolls tell of a movement that was a Jewish 'Apocalyptic cult' waiting to do battle with the forces of evil in which righteousness would prevail. The Qumrans were making themselves ready for the great battle in which they firmly believed that the forces of evil would die upon the blazing spears held by the hands of the 'Sons of Light.'
One of the reasons for the angst between Jews and Romans was the fact that the Jews opposed slavery. In the year 70 CE the Romans utterly destroyed the people of Qumran and the Temple in Jerusalem. Until 70 CE the Qumrans were waiting in great anticipation and with great faith for the messiah to appear and deliver them. The messiah, according to Jewish belief, was not a God that would deliver his people by clearing their way to heaven. The messiah was to be an empowered King who would destroy the enemies of the Jews and regain their Holy Land.
Everything Christians know about Christianity is false. Their beliefs are based on Old World Jewish superstitions in a messiah who never came, and colorful layers of various pagan beliefs of the Roman culture.
At the time Paul invented a messiah that had come and died for people's sins, but at the time they didn't know he was god, three-fourths of the people in the Roman Empire were slaves. Paul was giving the slaves a sense of freedom when they were still slaves, and access to the Kingdom of God in Heaven. Paul took his message to illiterate peasants and other unfortunate people. The Dead Sea Scrolls are not being read in the churches because they are mostly forgotten. Few people, who are not scholars, have read The Dead Sea Scrolls. Preachers are not encouraging their sheep-dipped flock to read scholarly works on this topic. The greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century is only mentioned, but is not explained. I have heard people making statements that are not true about The Dead Sea Scrolls, and I don't know where they got the information, but it surely wasn't from any scholar who could read Hebrew and Aramaic. The fact that people don't read scholarly work makes it very easy to exploit them. It also makes it easy to enslave people with religious superstitions. If the clergy has a special gift of understanding, which was bestowed upon them by god, then why in the hell don't they understand any of these facts?
