I heard in an older show that the Bible claims graves opened and the dead walked. Can someone tell me where the Bible makes this inane claim? Any book recommendations about such claims? Thanks

Matthew chap.27: 45 "Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour." 27:51-53 "And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city and appeared unto many."

None of the other Gospels mention the darkness all over the land, the veil of the temple rent in twain top to bottom, the earthquake, the rocks, the graves opening and dead saints who rose and walked out of their graves.

Nor did any historian living in the same place and time as these events supposedly happened.

Someone posting on google answers says that "zombies" only appeared to friends and family and not to the leaders and the scribes.

The gospel of Matthew was written long after the events it describes. Most scholars believe Matthew was written about 80 AD. Matthew is only a title the author is unknown, because all the authors of the gospels were unknown they were given titles.

"The graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city and appeared unto many."

Even if they try to say the resurrected dead saints "only appeared to friends and family and not to the leaders and the scribes". This does not explain how Matthew knew about it long after the event. For these kinds of excuses to make sense we have to believe that people didn't mention something that would have been staggering, and then the historians living in the same place and time wouldn't have gotten wind of the story and that's why it wasn't recorded at that time. However, someone who lived long after the event recorded it.
